Sasol has been a firm believer in supporting the arts for over three decades now. So much so that the company won BASA’s Long-term Partnership award in 2012 and one year later secured BASA’s Youth Development award.
Business and Arts South Africa (BASA) works to encourage the private sector to enter into sustainable partnerships with the arts sector and is a longstanding partner with Sasol in encouraging and supporting the arts.
An artistic milestone for Sasol was winning BASA’s Long-Term Partnership award in 2012 for its 23-year-long (now 25) sponsorship of the Sasol New Signatures art competition – the oldest annual art competition in the country.
In addition the Youth Development award was awarded for Sasol’s partnership with the South African National Youth Orchestra (SANYO) since 1979. Sasol’s sponsorship towards SANYO is aims to encourage participation in performance arts, providing young talented enthusiasts the opportunity to boost their musical abilities on a national platform.
Sasol’s Sponsorships Manager, Richard Hughes said, “As a company, we are committed to finding innovative ways to unite and unlock the potential of South African artists. Through our partnership with the South African National Youth Orchestra we have helped launch the successful careers of many artists on a national and international level.”
The Sasol New Signatures art competition, which is run in collaboration with the Association of Arts Pretoria, is open to all artists older than 18 year’s old who have not held solo exhibitions except for academic purposes.
“There is no doubt that art is one of the biggest platforms of expression. As a company, we are a proud corporate sponsor of arts and cultural projects,” said Hughes. “Through New Signatures, we have helped many artists enter the South African arts landscape and establish their names in the industry.”
