Sasol is committed to enabling economic growth and making a meaningful contribution to the lives of people and communities around us. One aspect of this is empowering the youth of South Africa through education and collaboration therefore the company is the main partner of the Bright Young Minds (BYM) Summit that started on Monday, 4 July 2011.
BYM is a youth-driven non-profit organization that identifies the brightest and most passionate young people in the country and equips and inspires them to be positive change agents.
According to Maurice Radebe, Sasol Group Executive, Sasol is elated to be a part of this summit. "The company firmly believes in encouraging young people to participate and debate potential real solutions to issues such as climate change. Through the BYM Summit we are pleased to have the opportunity to interact with some of South Africa's talented young people and be informed, challenged and inspired by them. We believe that the youth will play a critical role in leading the way in the discussion of how we can move towards a low-carbon future," says Radebe.
Taking place over four days until 7 July 2011, the Summit's theme, 'A climate for change', will investigate innovative ways to shape a low-carbon, low poverty future. BYM partners with companies, such as Sasol, that share their values and can add value though their innovative technologies.
Sasol is developing, integrating and commercializing renewable energy alternatives to reduce its carbon footprint through its New Energy division.
"There is no single solution to the reduction of Green House Gas emissions. Sasol is actively engaging with various societies, government and industries to find the optimum mix of solutions for different circumstances. This project with BYM adds a youthful perspective to this important discussion," adds Radebe.
