Sasol Chief Executive Pat Davies has been awarded an Honorary Fellowship of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) in the UK for his contribution to the profession of chemical engineering through his leadership at Sasol.
IChemE is the global professional body for chemical, biochemical and process engineers. IChemE Honorary fellowships are given to individuals from the chemical and process industries that have made significant contributions to the field. An Honorary Fellowship is the most prestigious award bestowed by the Institution.
Davies has worked for Sasol for more than 35 years, and in his role as CEO over the last five years, he has helped to successfully position Sasol as an international player in the chemicals and energy sectors, establishing a strong presence for the company globally.
"With this award IChemE has recognised that through his various leadership roles throughout his time at Sasol, Davies has provided opportunities for the profession of chemical engineering and processing to grow and develop, while meeting the technical and business challenges he identified and engaged in," said IChemE chief executive, Dr David Brown.
Davies commented that his being awarded an Honorary Fellowship by IChemE was testament to the contribution that Sasol has made to the chemical engineering profession. "Over the years Sasol has been an innovator of international standing. Through continuous improvement in the work we do, much of which is chemistry related, we have developed new processes and products that touch the lives of people across the globe. This recognition speaks to the industry-leading, world-class work that our chemical engineers at Sasol undertake on a daily basis," says Davies.
"It is especially an honour to receive this award during the International Year of Chemistry 2011 when the world celebrates the achievements of chemistry and its contributions to the well-being of humankind," he concluded.
