As part of the entry process for the 2011 Sasol New Signatures Art Competition, artists are encouraged to attend the free information session to be held at Van Riebeeck Hall, Drysdale Street, Nelspruit, on Thursday, 05 May 2011 from 09h00 to 12h00. The Sasol New Signatures Art Competition information sessions are always very well supported by local artists and, as space is limited, interested parties are encouraged to book their seat.
National information sessions are held to provide insight into the judging process and to offer advice to artists on conceptualisation, display and presentation of work. The information sessions are presented by acclaimed artist and Chairman of the Sasol New Signatures art competition's judging panel, Peter Binsbergen. The sessions also take artists through the competition's history and logistics, including how to submit work via the internet, concepts and titles of works, presentation techniques, installations, as well as working in different media. Individual attention is given to proposals and technical problems are addressed.
"The Sasol New Signatures Art Competition is now in its 22nd year of discovering South Africa's freshest talent. It provides a strong platform to evaluate, appreciate and advance South Africa's emerging talent," says Sasol Sponsorship Manager, Andriesa Singleton.
In addition to winning the main prize of R60 000, this year's Sasol New Signatures winner will be given the opportunity to hold a solo exhibition at the Pretoria Art Museum next year. The runner-up and five merit winners will receive R15 000 and R1 000 respectively.
More information and entry forms can be obtained from Nandi Hilliard at the Association of Arts Pretoria at 012 346-3100 or www.artsassociationpta.co.za or www.sasolsignatures.co.za.
