Durban, South Africa – Sasol today donated nearly 4 000 litres of hand sanitisers to the Wentworth community in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. This donation is aimed at providing support in a fight against the spread of COVID-19. 

Sasol Senior Manager: Satellite Operations in KwaZulu-Natal, Monty Montgomery, said the donation was in recognition of the impact that COVID-19 has had on business, employees and the community at large. 

“We have ramped up our support to communities and providing much-needed hand sanitizer, gloves, masks and soaps to hospitals, clinics and taxi associations,” said Montgomery. 

“Satellite Operation has since the start of the pandemic donated sanitizers, gloves, masks and soaps to various municipalities in KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, Northwest and Mpumalanga as well as to the Health Ministry of Mozambique.” 

He said today’s donation of 2 000 litres of hand sanitiser would be distributed to the Wentworth community via community organisations identified with the help of South Durban Basin Community Development Trust. 

Satellite Operations also handover over 1 500 litre of hand sanitiser to Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres in the area as part of Sasol ECD Programme implemented I partnership with The Unlimited Child. 

Further to the donation, Sasol has over the past 12 months also provided support to fenceline communities in the KwaZulu-Natal through a number of initiatives, which include bursaries, the cleaning of Amanzimtoti beach, the provision of a mobile science lab for schools, entrepreneurship training and start-up support for unemployed youth in the area. The company is also a supporter of the Wentworth HIV programme and helped repair damages to Wentworth High School. 

“We believe by working together, we will have a fighting chance against the spread of Covid-19 and support the Government initiatives of flattening the curve.”
